Displaying external XML/RSS feeds within textpattern

Hello everyone

It’s my first post here so I’ll try to be polite :-), you dont’ have to be in your reply though, I dont mind it rough!!

A colleagoue of mine has signed up with Magenta News Feed service, it basically outputs all the mentions of your company in the news,in any format you like. We use the xml output to display in our intranet using coldfusion.

We’ve also got another site built on TP 4.0.2 and we know want to pull this feed into that.

How do I do that in TextPattern?? Do I write the code to get and expand the XML to however we like it in PHP, and then output it within the textpattern code?

Or, is there some super clever plugin to do it all for me??

i am lazy, that’s why I’m into computers

Re: Displaying external XML/RSS feeds within textpattern

I can’t offer a complete solution, but I will point you toward <a href=“http://magpierss.sourceforge.net/”>MagpieRSS</a>. The <a href=“http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?id=5063”>txp.icio.us plugin</a> uses it to pull info from a user’s del.icio.us feed and display it in Textpattern, so I know it integrates well.

Hope this helps, and good luck getting it working. :)

Re: Displaying external XML/RSS feeds within textpattern

Thanks Elenita for your advice.

I’ve started using the lastRSS plugin and after a bit of mangling of code(heavy mangling not required) it’s working well.

I did find somehting about magpie but lastRSS seemed to be easier when it was being described, I’m not sure if it was or not as I“m staying with what works, it’s always, ALWAYS the best solution.

thanks again
