Re: How did you learn CSS?

I learnt by trial and error and references from W3School. I’ve had an enormous amount of help from individuals in particular Root (what the bugger happened to him anyway) and Stuart and the Bombsite who’s been invaluable in teaching me the rights and wrongs of CSS, and then of course me forgetting everything he;s said :)

The Firefox extensions are invaluable, too bad IE doesn’t have the same functionality. Perhaps in 7.0?

In the meanwhile, you can try the Internet Explorer Developer Toolbar and also the CSS Vista

Re: How did you learn CSS?

When I started my website, styling used to be included in the “head” on each and every page you created, so I found the “view source” option invaluable for finding out how something had been done, or W3Schools as a reference quide. Now that CSS has become the norm I find the “Web Developer” extension for FF extremely useful.

Re: How did you learn CSS?

Jeffrey “Fancy pants” Zeldman’s book “Designing with web standards” is a must-have for you to understand no only CSS, but all different aspects of web design… the book is already 3 years old, but it’s a fine good book.

Westciv’s tutorial and CSS editor (Style Master) are also good starting points.

I’m still waiting for Eric Meyer’s books on CSS that I bought at Amazon… but I’m sure they will be great help to.

Re: How did you learn CSS?

I learned by viewing source and working in NVU. This was almost a year ago, when I had no idea how to design a site. Eventually, I headed over to w3schools and learned a bit more. What really helped is trial and error…

I think for anyone starting fresh, westciv has some really good tutorials.

Re: How did you learn CSS?

Learned? Past tense? Not so much learned as still learning. But one fantastic book is the CSS anthology by Rachel Andrew. Have a look at this link. Loads of useful examples.

Of course, trial and error is the best way of learning, but to save time you need to be trying the right kind of things. This book has been invaluable in this respect.

Other than that, I’d echo many of the links above. The westciv tutorials are good. There’s also a good book by Eric Meyer, but I have no idea what it’s called at the moment. It’s big and glossy and got a blue cover. That’s the kind of description that makes librarians and booksellers weep with frustration, but if you spot it, it’s worth a squint.

All the best,

Will

DHTML and CSS for the World Wide Web: Visual QuickStart Guide

I had played with CSS for a while, but this book allowed me to actual understand what the stuff I was cutting and pasting was actually doing.

Re: How did you learn CSS?

i strated with the tutorials at the dreamweaver developer center would suggest you do a project only with CSS to actually get a hang of it . . .

Re: How did you learn CSS?

I can also recommend the books by Dan Cederholm. He always compares the options you have for designs with and without CSS :)
