using adsense and different affiliate programs...
This may be a total dumb question to ask, but I was just wondering how easy it is to use adsense and some kind of affiliate program with txp?
I figure the adsense is no problem, although keep in mind I’ve never used adsense, so be gentle if that is an obvious question.
Second is if I were to start an amazon store, how difficult would that be to use with txp? Again, never used and Amazon store before, just curious.

Don’t know about Amazon but Adsense is easy as pie. I put the code in a TXP form, then output the form wherever I want it to appear in the page. I use divs to surround the Google code for placement in the page.

There are several ways of integrating Textpattern with amazon allowing for varying depths of information:
- knd_amazonlist (download link dead, domain orphaned, you might find an alternate source elsewhere)
- jgh_amazon
- wet_amazonassoc (builds only text links)

Re: using adsense and different affiliate programs...
Thanks both of you for the replies!
Wet: I think those will eventually come in handy. I didn’t realize there were plugins for amazon. I guess my last question would be, what if it’s not amazon? Like if I wanted to include a online golf store into a site from say www.tgw.com? I assume this would be more difficult since there probably are not as many people using their affiliate programs as their is with amazon.
Thanks

I don’t think it would be too difficult. Basically, every affiliate shop has to work the same way: Provide links with embedded affiliate id which direct your users to an order page on their site. If you can provide me with a sample link, I can build a plugin in exchange for a share of your affiliate earnings like, say, 80 percent. Just kidding…

Ha Ha….sure! :( I don’t have a sample link or anything yet. Just hypothetical questions for paths that I will eventually cross for a site I’m working on. I’ll post again when I’m actually working on that part of the site, if I have trouble that is. I don’t want you taking 80 off the top! :)

Re: using adsense and different affiliate programs...
Old thread here, just wondering. I’ve made a form for my google adsense banner, trying to make it appear site-wide.
I pasted the entire code into a new txp form, called “googleads”.
I’ve tried inserting the call onto the default “page”, all over the place, but no matter where I stick it I can’t make it appear.
Anyone able to post their syntax for adwords minus your referral ID? Plz?

Re: using adsense and different affiliate programs...
i have a form named “03adsense” of type “misc”
inside of my page templates I use the following txp tag: <txp:output_form form="03adsense" />
the contents of the form looks like this
… which in that case is the horizontal ads on ChunkySoup.net
the template code I’m using to split the list into pieces there is a little trickier, but just for getting the ad in the page that’s all you should need.

Re: using adsense and different affiliate programs...
Hmm, I must be dumb. Can’t make it work for love or money. I’ve added a div class to the top of my googlecode, in this case “foxad”. looks like:< div class=“foxad” > instead of what you have, but otherwise it’s exactly the same.
I’d really like to place it in the sidebar, in this case it’s just the “try firefox” button, not the whole adbar. Am I calling it incorrectly? Simply placing : < div class=“foxad” > < / div > w/i the body of the page…I’ve tried sticking it everywhere, but nothing’s showing. @ first I thought perhaps the firefox adblock was blocking it, but nope…it’s not there.
Little help?
Again, sorry to be such a nooblet, and thanks so much for your help.

Re: using adsense and different affiliate programs...
When I put my TXP sites up, I wasn’t too familiar with how pages and forms worked so I just placed the Google ads in the pages themselves.
Let’s say you want to place an ad in sidebar-2, I’m assuming the default template, then just copy the ad from the adsense site into the page between the sidebar’s div and wrap it in a paragraph tag.
When I get the chance I need to do it properly, with forms, but for now it renders fine.

Re: using adsense and different affiliate programs...
Wow I was being completely dumb. Just sitting there staring @ the code I had a breakthrough, and WOW was I making that too difficult. I have a very good understanding of the template system now…and I LIKE IT!!
Now if I could only figure out png transparency over text, I could make a sweet template.
Thanks for all your help everyone! I really appreciate it.
