... Use Sections as Filters For Categories?

Ok, I have some Categories (Editorials, Sports, Sidewalk Talk, …) and some user-created sections (Issue 4, Issue 5, Issue 6 …)

I can display lists of the categories and the sections on the sidebar, and then click on them to display the articles placed in that category OR section. But that’s not what I want.

I’d like to show ONLY the articles inside of a section that are ALSO part of a certain category. Since I can assign a section and two categories to an article when I create it, hopefully I can put it to good use.

For example, I want to be able to display all articles that have been placed in section “Issue 6” AND have category “Sports”, but NOT display any “Sports” articles from “Issue 5” or any other section on that page.

Of course, I’d also like to be able to see ALL the articles inside a secton, regardless of category, like I can now.

I don’t need to see all the articles inside of a given category, that is pretty useless to me.

If this has already been covered, please call me an idiot who didn’t search with the right keywords, and point me in the direction of that thread. Thanks.

What you need to do is generate an URL like www.yoursite.tld/section/?category-name . There’s some simple tricks to do that, if I find the textbook article or forum thread that talked about it I’ll edit myself.

Yep, I’ve been playing around and by just typing in that url myself I can create the kind of filtering I’d like. But like you said, I need to be able to automatically generate the url. Thanks for looking into it.
