Archive Help. New at this... loosing my mind... maybe.

I cant see my archives. I thought that if I installed textpattern, I’d magically have an archive, but apparently not. I’m using the rss_suparchive plugging and I can see the link to the article/post/whatever, but when I click on it, I get the message below. Is there something else I should do to make the archive work.

The requested URL /2006/01/12/welcome-to-the-jungle was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Thanks,

Dazed and Confused

Hi!

Thank you Zem, I completely missed that while looking at the FAQ. Not that it made much sense anyways, but I kinda figured it out.

Again, thanks.

Which part of it doesn’t make sense?

Re: Archive Help. New at this... loosing my mind... maybe.

Well, the only thing any know about servers is the purpose of them. I’m not such a wiz at this web stuff, but I can logically figure out what to do (even if I dont understand why its done). After reading the little article, I remember that in the textpattern download there was a file called .htaccess. I totally ignored it, because I saw there was already one in my files on my website. After reading the article, I got the gist of it (I still dont know why it does or doesnt let me do some things, and the whole clean and messy links is a little confusing). I just upload the .htaccess file from my computer onto the website files, and I hit overwrite when my ftp agent asked me if I wanted to, that way the .htaccess from my computer would take the place of the one that was currently there.

Again, I can figure these things out by poking around, unlike you, who actually has an understandingn of how and why. I’ll tell you what, I used to be a big fan of wordpress, but after they changed a bunch of stuff in the templates section, it drove me up the wall. Plus their tags became more difficult for me to understand, while texpattern tags are very straight foward and you can tell what they do simply by reading them.

I’m into the technology because of how easy it makes it to publish words, but I usually dont know why it works the way it does. It’s like calculus, I know what it does, I just dont know why.

I’m learnin’!
