Is there a way to retain the images' original filename after uploadng?

After uploading to Textpattern, I noticed my images are always renamed into numbers, such as 43.jpg, and so on. Is there an option somewhere to retain the original filename as I upload it? (I tried looking it in my panel without avail.)

Or does this require a specific plugin to do so?

Not sure what you need this for. TXP uses the id of the image rather than the name. This makes sense, because you can change the name of the image to whatever you want. Using the id means if you change the name, TXP will still be able to use the image.

Re: Is there a way to retain the images' original filename after uploadng?

I had a different ID in mind. Yes, IDing by numbers is more feasible if Textpattern retain the original filename into the .jpg, so I can merely link it to the corresponding image. I will also not change the name of the files, hence the reason why I wanted the original filename to be retained :P

This is because, as users download the images from my site, I want them to be able to see the original names.

At the moment I’m not aware of a way of retaining the original image names and still use TXP image tags. You could always FTP your images to the directory but then you would have to use the standard HTML img tags to call them instead of the TXP tags.

True, that. Thanks anyway. :)

Re: Is there a way to retain the images' original filename after uploadng?

This was something I’ve been curious about as well. It’s fairly important in my case that the image names are retained and I’ve been looking for a solution to this. I’m curious about one thing- why is it that the file upload feature is able to retain the file’s original name but the image upload feature can’t? And thinking along this line- is it possible to tweak it to make the process the same so that I can keep original names for the images too?

Because they were coded at different times by different people.

I keep telling myself I’m going to do this. Then I start thinking about all the additional image features I’d like to have and end up mumbling in a corner somewhere. In the end, I just continue ftping images.

Re: Is there a way to retain the images' original filename after uploadng?

Ah, I see. I wish I was more competent in terms of going about tweaking this. Right now, I have no idea where to start. I wouldn’t really mind FTPing it, but to my understanding- if I FTP the image, then I’ll have to manage it manually via the use of html everytime I want to call the images, right? I thought the textpattern admin wouldn’t be able to manage the images for you if you FTP them…or am I wrong about that?
