fixes lenght on each page
Hello,
If my domain is accepted , I will try to make a diary of the precancy of my wife, the birth of my daugther en her life till now.
I know TPX a little but i have one question.
Is it possible to have a fixed length of the page, regarding how many articles there are in a catogory.
I know that you can limit the number of articles displayed, but that’s not working for me.
Some articles are small and some are very big. This depends how much happens on a day.

I have a background-image of 800px, in that image all the text must be displayed.
Is there a way or not ?

Re: fixes lenght on each page
The fixed length is no TXP issue. It is a design issue.
In general you will always need scrollbars. If you switch off the scrollbars users will not be able reading your articles. Either you have the scrollbars at the right side of your monitor or if you use an iFrame they are applied in the frame. Last but not least it is not possible varying the length of a text according to a fixed length of an div or frame.

Re: fixes lenght on each page
I don’t think this is exactly what you need, but the plugin etz_pg can be used to paginate long articles.

Re: fixes lenght on each page
oke,
I made a example in html to let you see what i mean. you can see it at http://members.home.nl/tamarawobben/zwangerschap.htm
What i want to achieve is that on one way or another the text is as long as the background-image. Now you can see that the text is longer.
Sorry that i can’t let you see in TXP. Im waiting at my own domain and then i can install TPX and make the site with TPX.

Re: fixes lenght on each page
Roelof, do you really want the background image to have a fixed height? Otherwise you could use a top image, a bottom image, and set repeat-y for the middle image. So you adapt the background to the text instead of the other way around.

Re: fixes lenght on each page
no, i have a fixed width because i don’t want to have sometimes very long pages and sometimes very short pages. In the next version of this site i have broken this image into three.
But then the same problem exist: the subject “zwangerschap” is very long because it going from febr. till sept. And one some day’s a lot happens. See 1 april and some day’s happens a few things.
And i think it’s the best to have the same page layout troughout the site when i tell the story of my daugthers life.

Re: fixes lenght on each page
If you want to have that fixed height, then the pagination plugin is probably the best option.
That way you can just divide really long articles into several pages. Other option, as noted before too, is using iframes. Third possibility is to make text scroll with javascript scrollbars but they are quite tricky to implement and not so good choice when thinkin about usability.

Re: fixes lenght on each page
What you’d need is a plugin that can paginate article lists after a set number of lines. I’m not a coder so I don’t know if this is possible, but you could ask for it in the plugins forum.
