Blank page and incorrect file paths

Hello, I installed textpattern several times in an attempt to see if this was a one time error somewhere along the install. Anyway, the install seems to go without a hitch, I get to the admin interface, make a few changes, then hit view page and it just takes me to a blank site.

I tried posting an article and running in test mode, same thing.

This is what diagnostics show me:

preflight_check
dir_not_writable: /files ?
file_uploads_disabled ?
d:\hosting\username\textpattern\setup\ still_exists ?
diagnostic_info

txp_version: 4.0.3 (unknown revision)
last_update: 2006-01-09 21:11:32/2006-01-09 21:08:39

$path_to_site: d:\hosting\username

dir_not_writable: /files
file_uploads_disabled
d:\hosting\username\textpattern\setup\ still_exists

htaccess_contents:

Now the thing is those file paths are totally off. I tried to look around to see where I could change them, but I couldn’t figure it out.

I’m certain that every time I’ve run setup I’ve entered the correct filepath into every field, it should be in the root directory.

Help =[

Also, for some reason no languages show up in the manage languages tab even though I’m looking at two of them inside the lang folder.

Perhaps I’m retarded but the two issues don’t seem to really be related except for the blank page similarity. =/

For some reason it is assigning paths that are completely invalid when I tell it that the paths are root and /textpattern, and I believe that is causing the errors.

Well, you said ‘file paths’, so I thought you were talking about, er… file paths ;)

Sorry I can’t help you.

Which paths? What should they be?

I’ve entered the correct filepath into every field, it should be in the root directory.

You mean the main Textpattern index.php file is in C:\? That doesn’t sound right. Are you confusing filesystem paths with URL paths?

The “d:” and “c:” paths, I believe. I just started learning about websites today really, but I’m under the impression that those paths should just be what I can see from my account, which would be the root folder / and everything within it.

I may be wrong though, in which case I truly have no idea what’s going wrong. =[

Re: Blank page and incorrect file paths

$path_to_site: d:\hosting\username

This is wrong. setup already proposes a value that should be correct most of the time (unless maybe you use multiple different domains to reach the same site) – why did you change it?
path_to_site should be the domain (+potentially the subdir, if installed in a subdir).

Re: Blank page and incorrect file paths

I understand now the error of my ways. I didn’t realize my host was windows-based, I thought that somehow it thought that it was installing itself onto my desktop computer.

I’ve finally got it up and running, but now I can’t find the “Install Language” button, and I’m getting an RPC error and everything looks funky in the admin interface, but I guess I can deal with that.

I’ve got a fever, I can’t even really think right now, thanks everyone for the help.
