upgrading to 4.0.3; htaccess question
I cannot see .htaccess on my Mac (OS X Tiger) desktop.
When I installed originally, I got around this by ftp’ing the entire textpattern-4.x distribution folder onto my server, then rearranging the contents.
I do not see any way to do that now (using Fetch 5.0.4), so I figured I would download the .htaccess file from the textpattern subversion repository. However, that is marked “4.0.0 release” — is this the correct version for 4.0.3?
If not, where can I obtain the correct version? Alternatively, is there another way to replace the .htaccess file?
Once I get the correct htaccess file, I guess I would name it something else, then rename it with the leading dot, on the server?
Thanks. I am obviously no techie!

Well, no need to reply.
A friend with a PC and a little USB memory card took the folder, extracted the .htaccess file, renamed it htaccess (without the dot), we put that on my drive where it appeared, I FTP’d that to the server, added the dot, and — as bob’s your uncle — there it is.
Now I can see how well the upgrade took.
Thanks for your attention. And happy new year!

Re: upgrading to 4.0.3; htaccess question
If you want to be able to see files starting with a dot (like .htaccess) you need a simple utility.
I recommand you to download, for example, Onyx. You’ll also be able to optimize your Mac. It’s a quite good tool.
Cocktail also does the job !
I also think there is a way (in the preferences) to specify to Fetch to let you see the dot-something files…
Cheers,

Both Transmit and Interarchy will let you see invisible files like htaccess.
BBEdit & Textmate alsolet you see & edit “dot” files.

Thanks. I will look into all of those for the future. David Pogue (Missing Manual) recommended another tool — but I was too timid to mess with unix files! <g>

Thanks. I will check that out. Dumb me — didn’t even think of BBEdit, which does everything else for me!
