preserving txplib_head.php and textpattern.css

You should apply the changes made to textpattern.css though. Otherwise all comments in your comment-list will look identical, no matter whether they are set to spam, unmoderated or visible. edit: There have also been changes to txplib_head.php regarding the javascript in there, which partly changed, and partly moved to it’s own file.

Yep I saw that afterwards. I will have to rehack my “pretty” admin areas. :)

Two questions:

What exactly does the captcha plugin do? Why should I install it? I’m sure it’s good, I just don’t see any info on it.
With respect to the FAQ about checking one has upgraded correctly — that’s a long, complicated list of characters to digest, not to mention the time involved. If a person is dealing with a lot of sites, this could be discouraging. I update using SVN, and then do an <code>svn info</code> check to see how it went. Is that not a reasonable approach? Is it possible to automate the checksum checking process somehow?

Destry, those are good questions.

Re 1: After a preview, the Captcha Plugin will display an image with a code on it, and an input field. right below the textarea. When you submit, it is checked whether the code matches, if it does, the comment is made visible. If it doesn’t, the user has up to three tries to enter a corret code, after that the comment is recorded as unmoderated. See an example:

Re 2: Yes, there are other ways to check if you are using svn. The table is mainly used if something is not as expeted, and one want to make sure, the files are correct. And I agree, that we should make an automated wa to chek this (probably via XML-RPC). I’ll add it to the to-do list. :)

CAPTCHA is very very bad practice accessibility-wise, I would advice against it, but if you really have trouble with spam I guess it’s OK to use it.

Now I have a question: Will TXP ever going to be able to spit out strict markup? It seems like the ball is rolling with recent two cool updates, but I don’t see any upgrades on this matter. Also right now I think a whole lot could be done to improve the accessibility of the markup it is producing.

I am willing to do wahtever to help, I just want to know if it’s worth it, because I see people hacking it to make it work better for strict DTDs, and it is not a whole lot to ask and to help I think.

Can anyone second this?

Do you mean the output of the production sites themselves? or just the Textpattern interface?

Because this page already validates as XHTML 1.0 strict running the last release, 4.0.2.

^ Textile comments tweak, as before. For those that don’t like P tags, Headers, and Tables injected into their comments. Enjoy.

By the way, does anyone know how to fix these lines, which are causing validation errors? They need to have wrappers of some sort, but I don’t see an easy way to fix it, aside from hacking comment.php…

I got a problem with published comments. When I look at them in the textpattern interface, HTML is now shown. I.e. “ p This is the comment /p “ (left out < and >) instead of “This is the comment” etc. Hasn’t been that way before. Guess it’s a bug?

BTW: Where can I style / edit the numbered view of the comments? (Especially how the numbering is styled.) It seems that there’s been a paragraph inserted now and I can’t get it out.

Oh, and comment_remember seems to be producing crap in Safari. The checkbox is inserted into the text. Is there any way to style this?

As I have said before, the release-thread is not the best place to get support.

(btw: block-elements in textile for comments were already introduced and discussed after the last release: it was new in 4.0.2, not much changed in 4.0.3.)

Good point. Seems like we could save everyone a lot of headaches if we finally made the Announcements forum an admin/moderator posting area only. Aside from new releases, and perhaps a couple other dev related things, there shouldn’t be much to announce anyway.
