Plugin Rquest: E-mail a friend

I want something like <a href=“http://www.hartstrings.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/emailFriend.emailForm/categoryID/c499b611-fda9-4491-8f9d-b1fb3c591c0b/productID/5909d780-a4f6-4eb3-9de4-ddd26789739b/”>this</a>. Will any plugin developer kindly help me out?

Edit

I know there may have been a dozen requests like this. Consider it a re-request!

I think, a good solution would be to integrate this in zem_contact along with the possibility to send whole articles.

Re: Plugin Rquest: E-mail a friend

Over at njforfeingold.org I have a feature that emails the link to an article. Just click on the ‘Email This Post’ link. Also, it’s made to only have one recipient at the moment, but that could be change easily enough.

It’s not a plugin, I’m afraid—just PHP code in a textpattern form. It would be nice if it were.

Re: Plugin Rquest: E-mail a friend

That nice little plugin opens the door wide for abuse by spammers. See also:

I used to believe such features were nice, until I started tracking how much they were actually used… I stopped worrying about it ever since. It’s one of those things that’s nice for owners, and usually ignored by users (unless you are running a joke-site or a are in a similar niche).

Oh God!
I said “nice” just ‘cause that Plugin was developed by Nicolas Fantino and he says:

The script checks that the user has filled both emails, checks the validity of these emails and checks the referrer URI looking for the REAL site URI so, the script can’t be used by other people to send fake emails.

but I didn’t try it.

The big trouble with this kind of features/plugins is spamming, but it’s not impossible to have a secure (anti-spamming) “Send to a friend” into TXP

Re: Plugin Rquest: E-mail a friend

Providing valid emails and a referrer is easy and not something that would stop people out to abuse it.

I agree, it’s certainly not impossible. I only said that from my experience on many sites it hardly has any benefit, and is thus not really worth the trouble. In the textdrive-link above, I explain several things that can be done so improve the security and keep abuse to a minimum. I certainly didn’t mean to stop anybody else from writing such a plugin. :)

That’s a good point, in most cases it hasn’t a benefit but in others it has, for example in a Newspaper.
I’ve read that threads in the Textdrive Forums and understand your explanation. We must to take care about the ready-made scripts, mostly with the send mail ones (and comments functions! a few years ago I had a nightmare with Movable Type and Spamming!).

As Tranquillo said zem_contact could be a good path to develop the “Send to a friend” function/plugin.

Thx
