create content for nav links?

http://www.phunctional.com/blog/

I finally figured out how to create the nav links, but now that they’re there… how do I create content for each link? Do I need to basically run another installation for each page? Somewhere I thought I read that you had to do that.

Re: create content for nav links?

You do not need any other installations of Textpattern.

Each of those links can be a section.

In Textpattern admin, go into the presentation > sections tab.

Write the name of the section, as you will want it to appear in the url, into the text field at the top and click “create.”

NOTE: It looks as though you’ve already created directories (perhaps through an FTP program?), though they are empty. You might need to delete them before you do the above step—I’m not sure about that. But textpattern creates new properly named directories for each of your sections, so you don’t need them there to begin with.

After you create each section, you’ll get to choose from several different options about how information will be displayed on them. Probably the main one to worry about at this point is “Uses page:”

Whatever it says there, or whatever you write there, is the name of the page that will handle content assigned to this section.

Some people like to use different pages for each section, some people like to use conditional tags (such as (<txp:if_section> do stuff </txp:if_section><txp:else />) to get all the different sections to use the same page. How you do it is up to you.

No, Textpattern don’t need and don’t create directories. In clean URL scheme, it create URL instead. Like www.domain.ext/section/article

If a directory called section exist (in that example), it will break things. Delete it or rename it.

Re: create content for nav links?

I got it figured out. I have to change the href= to the section name. And then create articles under those sections. Easy enough :)
