suggestions needed for design portfolio
Hello – I am looking for some hints basically or words of advice on building a fairly simple/straigtforward graphic design portfolio. I already have the main navigations/sections worked out, I just need to flesh out the content and thumbnails.
Basically, I have 5 sections – index, school, professional, freelance, other, about
Index and About are pseudo-static pages, Index has a flash navigation that links to school, professional, freelance, other, and about.
school, professional, freelance, other use the same template (and a similar looking navigation as the Index page), and for the most part are exactly the same, except the content is dependent on the section (school is recent school work, freelance is recent freelance, etc.)
About , shares basically the same template as school, prof, freelance, other, but instead of thumbnails/images it has an article about me with contact info etc.
Now here’s what I just need some advice/pointers on, because I want this to be pretty easy for me to set up, and I’d prefer to only use plugins if I absolutely have to.
I want the first page in each design section (school, freelance, prof., etc) to have a list of thumbnails, fairly large thumbnails that will link to the individual artcicle with details on the image/project, BUT for the main article image, I want it to be a flash image that cycles through various parts images/closeups of the piece. For example, if its a CD I designed, I want it to start off with the cover, and then automatically cycle to the insert, cd body, etc.
I am pretty good with flash, I figure I will have to upload the flash.swf file and code it into the body of each article – no problem.
I also think it would be wise to have the “next” and “previous” links on there too, so they don’t have to go back to the list of thumbnails.
What do you guys think about this?
Basically, I can build this in about 2 hours if I was just using html/css, but I want to learn textpatterm because I have built a few client websites (for musicians) and I am tired of updating content.
Can anyone point me in the right direction if I need any plugins, or give me general help, if you have built a similar website, or maybe some examples, I tried to use that zem_nav plugin for thumbnails, but it now obsolete.
…. primarily I just want to see if my plan of attack seems reasonable.
