500 Internal Server Error on article URLs

Hi there,

Hopefully the subject message outlined my problem, but you can see it by going to the URL of an article my site. This 500 error occurs anytime you click on any article, or try to access my archive.

I’m embarassed to say that I’m still running TxP 1.0rc1, but I promise to upgrade as soon as this problem is fixed – really I do!

Any ideas or thoughts? I’ve checked out several other forum threads, but can’t seem to find the same problem.

Thank in advance!

Clean urls don’t seem to be working. nathanlogan.com/index.php?s=archive and article urls like nathanlogan.com/index.php?id=77 do work. Switch to messy and everything should work.

Re: 500 Internal Server Error on article URLs

Why would that have changed all of a sudden??

And that is obviously not the route I want to take, due to existing links to my articles out in cyberspace, etc…

(Although I do appreciate the workaround).

Re: 500 Internal Server Error on article URLs

Ahhh, a returned e-mail from my hosting company:

We performed a routine PHP upgrade yesterday, and also modified the way PHP is invoked. We also ran some commands to fix up file/directory permissions and modified .htaccess files to comply with the new requirements. However, your site had a situation that wasn’t accounted for.

You’re using PHP files with no extensions, forcing them to be parsed by PHP with a ForceType declaration in .htaccess. I had to chmod those files 755, and change the ForceType to SetHandler, to allow the files to be properly handled by PHPSUEXEC.

So there you go. And within 28 minutes of my initial ticket submission – not bad.

Nathan, it looks like you are using an outdated version of textpattern, as that way of achieving clean urls has been dropped several releases ago. Given that there were security issues with older releases, I would kindly ask you to update to the most recnt release as soon as you find the time to do so.

Sounds to me like they changed php to be invoked as PHPsuexec without giving you any prior warning or telling you the possible consequences, which is appalling service in my opinion.
