Caught in 'setup' limbo
Hi,
I’m just trying to setup textpattern for the first time. Got the database all setup and up and running. Uploaded all textpattern files to my site fine. As I went through the setup procedure though I got to the point where the message:
“Before you proceed, create a file called config.php in the /textpattern/ directory and paste the following inside:”
.. appears. I setup the config file on the site, and then press “I did it!” and the screen just remains the same. So I can’t seem to get any further.
Does anyone know What might be happening? I seem very near the point of being setup, but I can’t get onto the next logon screen which should come-up.
I’d be really grateful for any ideas or help.

Re: Caught in 'setup' limbo
Most likely you’re uploading config.php to the wrong place.

Dont forget to take off the “default” from “config.php.default” if thats the file you edited…..
Dont worry… The flash site is being re-developed with txp !

Re: Caught in 'setup' limbo
Thankyou for your replies Alex and Matt. I have several times tried re-uploading the config.php file (also in different places), and yes I’ve removed the “.default” from the end of the extension.
I’m still having the same trouble. Any other ideas.
Basically I get to that setup screen where I am asked to copy script to “config.php”, which I do, then when I press the “I’ve done it” button, the screen just stays on the same form page.
… I will look again, as it does seem that the most obvious thing would be that config.php is in the wrong place.

Re: Caught in 'setup' limbo
Just tried loading config.php again several times. First in (subdirectory/textpattern/), then also just directly in the subdirectory. I do get a message, can’t find database sometimes. I’m wondering if my MySql database is setup properly. However the setup process is clearly connecting to the database at a certain point.

This is remarkably similar to what is described at http://forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?id=13060
which was eventually resolved thru discovering that Dreamweaver MX was adding HTML code to the config.php file. I’m also using Dreamweaver MX, but I can’t find any sign of any extra code in the file.

Hi Maniqui,
Thanks. I tried this after your suggestion. But I still get the same problem. Frustrating. i really thought this would resolve it.
I also tried completely removing my original download of Textpattern and starting from the beginning again. Same problem.
Might this be a problem with my server possibly?

Possible but unlikely. Can you post the complete contents of config.php please? You can blank out the mysql password. Use pastebin to post it.

Re: Caught in 'setup' limbo
Hi Alex,
I’m not familiar with pastebin. But going into it and putting in the contents of config.php, I presumed I need to give you the url where it appears, which is http://pastebin.com/467960
When I opened the config.php file this time, I did find some extra code in it, that I didn’t put in there. It was something like “/par” after each line of php code. And it was also preceeded by a whole lot of code. I also thought this was the config file which I placed there from a simple text editor. But maybe not. I will go back and find out, as this may well be the problem?
Thanks for your time

Re: Caught in 'setup' limbo
Further to my previous post Alex, I have just double checked that the current config.php file is without all that extra script. However it is strange that all that script appeared somehow before.

It could be, if that’s making it into the copy on the server. Perhaps you used a HTML editor or similar.
The other possible problem is the txpath setting:
$txpcfg['txpath'] = '\\\\nas25ent\\domains\\r\\rspopuk.com\\user\\htdocs\\txp\\textpattern';
I don’t think those double backslashes are correct. Try this:
$txpcfg['txpath'] = '\\nas25ent\domains\r\rspopuk.com\user\htdocs\txp\textpattern';
Is your server a Windows machine? There’s no drive letter at the start of the path, perhaps that’s an issue.
Also, can you confirm that the config.php file is located in the \\nas25ent\\domains\\r\\rspopuk.com\\user\\htdocs\\txp\\textpattern
directory, and is readable?
