Structuring static site with many areas to cover

Howdy from Texas!

I am working on a re-design of a site that requires many different areas. My current progress can be seen at http://micheleflory.pibby.com

As you can see from my preliminary design for the navigation (note: links have not been filled in yet), there are many different pages and subpages that I need to create. I may have done this properly so far, but I just started with TP so I’m not sure.

I have created the following sections, which correspond with my main navigation links (the ones you see by default before viewing the dropdown menu items):

  • home
  • buying a home
  • selling a home
  • community
  • about michele
  • contact us

The “home” section is the only one set to appear on the front page, all are included in the search results, all use a page called “regular” and my “default” stylesheet.

I have created the following categories

About Michele
  • Client Comments
  • Realtor Referral Network
  • Recognition
  • Resume
  • The Team
Buying a Home
  • 1031 Exchange
  • Active Listings
  • * All Houston MLS
  • * Our Listings
  • * Search Only The Woodlands MLS
  • * The Woodlands East Shore
  • * The Woodlands New Custom Homes
  • Client Gateway Service
  • Essential Home Services
  • Insurance Information
  • Mortgage Information
  • Schedule a Visit
Community
  • Government
  • * Montgomery County
  • * State of Texas
  • * The Woodlands Homeowners Association
  • * Village Associations
  • Schools
  • * Community College
  • * Private Schools
  • * Public Schools
  • * University Center
  • Taxes and Statistics
  • * Appreciation Rate Charts
  • * Cost of Ownership Comparisons
  • * Current Market Conditions
  • * Demographics
  • * MCAD
  • * Real Estate Property Tax
  • The Woodlands Country Club
  • The Woodlands FAQ
  • The Woodlands Photo Gallery
  • Town Center
  • * Entertainment
  • * * Central Park
  • * * Movie Theatres
  • * * Northshore Park
  • * * Pavilion Schedule
  • * Market Street
  • * The Woodlands Mall
  • * The Woodlands Waterway
Contact Us
  • Email
  • Live Chat
  • Phone and Fax
  • Skype VoIP Calls

Home

Selling a Home
  • Centralized Showing Service
  • My Home’s Current Value
  • Neighborhod Activity
  • PGG Performance
  • ProActive Marketing
  • Repairs and Services Directory

I have created my categories based on the following: main navigation link -> dropdown option or in some cases main navigation link -> dropdown menu option -> other dropdown options

I have filled every (I think) category with a article, so my links look like this:
http://micheleflory.pibby.com/buying-a-home/schedule-a-visit/ (main navigation + dropdown option)
http://micheleflory.pibby.com/buying-a-home/the-woodlands-new-custom-homes/ (main navigation -> dropdown option + other dropdown option)

For instance, “The Woodlands New Custom Homes” is seen under the “Buying a Home” tab on the main navigation bar at the top, then under “Active Listings” in the dropdown menu, but my link will have it as /buying-a-home/the-woodlands-new-custom-homes/

So far, this method is working just fine except for one thing. If someone were to just click on the “Buying a Home” link in the main navigation menu at the top, they are taken to this page: http://micheleflory.pibby.com/buying-a-home/ This page lists the “filler content” of my articles that are posted under that section/category. I don’t want to see all of that. What I would like to see is a list with links to the other categories in this section which will then lead to my article posted there. For example:

  • Active Listings (this page would also need a list like this with links to the options below in case someone just clicks the link and not an option from the dropdown menu)

Should I have set up my sections/categories/sub-section/sub-sub-sections differently, or can I still achieve the desired page above?

Do I create a new page with a new form with some sort of tag in it to achieve this?

What do I call my post so that it is the only one seen at http://micheleflory.pibby.com/buying-a-home/ or any of my other navigation elements that contain a drop-down menu?

I apologize for the long-winded explanation, but hopefully it will help in answering my questions. Thanks for your time! :)

Re: Structuring static site with many areas to cover

I was able to get this working with the help of a plugin- wow_menu and by having this tag in the template that I am using for my pages <code><txp:article limit=1 /></code>.
