Photoblogging
Hi Peeps… Im about to build a photoblog, i want to use textpattern cos it rocks, but there were a few things i was hoping someone could advise me on. Originally i was just going to use textpattern the way it is out of the box… and just upload an image and create an article with the image in the body, and so on. Recently ive seen a lot of people using Flickr to post to their blog, and ive found a plugin which allows it to work with text pattern, however, i cant understand why you would do this !? then you essentially have two cms’s then right ? and if flickr goes down for some reason – so does your site…. im quite new to this photoblogging thing, does anyone know the advantages / disadvantages of using flickr and textpattern ??

I don’t photoblog myself, but I get the feeling that the Flickr plugin is best suited to sites that aren’t centered around photography, as yours would be. If you already had a number of tagged sets on Flickr that you were sharing that way, I might recommend using the plugin. But since photography is going to be the heart of your site, why not use Textpattern’s built-in capabilities instead of relying on Flickr?

As Elenita suggests, using Flickr is probably best for snappers rather than photographers, people who have loads of boring snaps rather than some decent photographs. I also believe it costs money too. If you want a proper photoblog then do it all within TXP. you will get a better result and you aren’t reliant on external sources. I particularly like the James Lomax site but then I would wouldn’t I? Gotta love that archive. ;)

Flickr is free—but there are some limitations (i.e. bandwidth limit, number of photo sets, etc) on its use. If you’re serious about photoblogging via Flickr, upgrading to Flickr Pro (US $24.95 per year) is probably a good idea.
On the other hand, Textpattern is free.

Totally! And I thought there was a free version of Flickr but wasn’t sure of the limitations which always end up being a pain in the arse anyway. :grin:

Yep, I see where you guys are coming from, it sounds like a plan… It did seam a bit strange to me, but i just wanted to see what the advantage of having both…. such as this guy: mysteryme

Well you could use Flickr for those photos you wouldn’t consider good enough for your photoblog.
