most of my site is suddenly not responding
My domain is http://www.ohword.com/
You may need to use http://www.ohword.com/blog to see a page come up
Everything was working fine yesterday though we did see a much higher level of traffic than we had any other day because a popular site posted about us.
When I woke up this morning there was an im sent overnight from someone who helps me edit the site. He said he removed about 10 spambot comment messages (our first spambotting… the price of higher traffic i guess) and that the site was currently down.
I’ve checked it out and indeed it seems like things are suddenly not responding. But our forum, the textpattern admin tool, the blog and gallery sections all come up at seemingly the usual speed. The homepage, features and reviews page all take forever….
If I put in an individual review url it comes up fast: http://www.ohword.com/reviews/103/sadat-x-experience-education

In the db manager I saw that txp_log_hit was showing a 1016 error. I used “Repair” and it no longer says there’s an error.

I’ve tried switching from chh_article_custom to article but it didn’t solve the problem.
On another note, the reason I use chh_article_custom is because I wasn’t able to get article thumbnails (I use zem_article_image) to work with an article list in any other way. If someone has insight there I’ll be glad to hear it.

There’s a section in the FAQ about diagnosing performance problems, you might find some of those suggestions helpful.
You’ve turned off debug mode now, so I can’t see the Runtime figure. But if it really is high, that indicates the problem occurs during page generation, and not during rendering (eliminating common causes like Javascript, off-site images, etc).
If the problem really is isolated to specific pages, you have a distinct advantage. Find all the differences between the slow and fast pages, and test them one at a time till you find the cause.

Rereading: txp_log_hit suggests you’re using a logging plugin (I don’t know which). It’s possible this is the cause, since you experienced heavy traffic: INSERT on a large unindexed or unoptimized table can be slow. Try disabling it to see if it makes a difference. If not, also try the suggestions regarding DNS and logging in the FAQ entry.
