Categories in Default Install not working correctly

I seem to be missing something, this may be a simple problem. My categories are not working. If I post an article to the default section “Article”, with a category “Blaine”, and then i go to /index.php?c=Blaine, nothing shows up. I can see the article if i go to /id/title, and if i go to /article/ then I can see it as well. The article is also labeled as having Cat 1. = Blaine in the publish section. What could be going on? Am I missing a template tag?

This also includes if I go to /category/Blaine, as well.

Re: Categories in Default Install not working correctly

the correct path is :

http://yoursite.com/?c=Blaine

or

http://yoursite.com/article/?c=Blaine

Re: Categories in Default Install not working correctly

correct. index.php?c=Blaine is the same as /?c=Blaine

Either way this doesnt work, but thank you for your reply!

Re: Categories in Default Install not working correctly

What I am trying to say is that Category Listings do not work at all. I have not messed with anything other than the page and style templates (not form). Do I have to re-install?

Re: Categories in Default Install not working correctly

By default a category listing will use the default section, and thus normally the default page template to display so have you modified the default section/page template in any way? Also is the “article” section allowed on the front-page?

Re: Categories in Default Install not working correctly

In Content-> Organize click on the category you are using. You will see that it has a name and a title. The name is what is used in urls, the title is what you can display on pages.

My guess is that you are using the wrong urls. ALternatively you may have gotten rid of the txp:article tag, in which case you will also not see anything based on the url…

Re: Categories in Default Install not working correctly

Sencer – Yes, they are the same. Title and Name.

thebombsite – I had the ‘about’ set to show on the main page. I set this back to the ‘article’, and now everything works. This seems to be a bug. If any section but the default is set to show on main page, the categories do not work? Strange.

Anyways, with the way you suggested it works. Thanks a lot!!

Re: Categories in Default Install not working correctly

This seems to be a bug.

Actually it seems more likely that you are not yet all that familiar with how textpattern works. The reason it wasn’t showing with your other page-template for about could well be that you were maybe missing the txp:article tag or that you were using other tags that prevented it from showing.

Re: Categories in Default Install not working correctly

I do have the txp:article. The articles show up when linked directly, but they do not show up in category listing. Yes, I do not know the textpattern engine as well as I’d like, but this seems to be pretty straight forward. I only use one page as well, I have not yet made custom pages. I probably messed it up on my own though, who knows.

Thank you for your reply!

Re: Categories in Default Install not working correctly

What you need to remember is that all your articles will belong to the “default” section as well as the section you allocate them to, thus every article from every section could appear on the front-page. You moderate this behaviour in the “Sections” tab by allowing or not allowing individual sections to appear on the front-page.

Re: Categories in Default Install not working correctly

Oh! I understand now. What I interpreted that as was “Make this section listing the default front page list”. Hmm… So can you have more than one section as “show on front page”? It seems so, but I read somewhere you shouldnt.
