plugin request: hide not used fields for write tab

I would like to make the most commonly used “write” tab as easy to understand as possible for my end users.
Currently I feel that any areas or fields not used by the site are a hindrence to them posting easily.
I would like a little more control over the interface of the write tab.

Specifically I would like the option to hide or show:
- “use textile” drop down menus
- “override” form drop down menus
- keywords

In addition to making it cleaner for users who will likely never use those functions, and for whom I don’t wish for them to know they exist and get confused about, it also makes the whole “write tab” and the appropriate fields visible on the top of the screen for me. ( I use four custom fields)

I have had a go at commenting out the bits in the txp_article.php that are pertinent to making this change, but:
1. I can’t figure out how to do it correctly without breaking the flow of the php and making it so the article won’t publish and save to the database.
2. It makes it so that I have to redo the mod everytime I update. vs. a plugin, which will likely stay worthy since the stability of 4.0.

If it would help, there is waz_admin_hide_fields , which appears to no longer be supported, which may be a good starting place.

Thanks,

Matthew

I’m interrested too… I have a buch of clients for whom even textpattern is too hard to publish some news ! They make anything anywhere they can ! :D It’s just incredible ! I made a documentation where I wrote in bold “don’t touch anything else, it’s pre-set, just write a title, a text, and click publish” and they change everything they can… Some day we would better stay in bed. :-D

Yes, clients should only be allowed to see what they need to use, any more and they become confused.

Re: plugin request: hide not used fields for write tab

It’s possible to achieve this through a php/javascript admin side plugin. I’ve done something similar to textpattern’s user interface in the past but I’m afraid I have lost the code :-( Saying that, modifying the javascript DOM isn’t a great way to do this, but it’s either that or hack textpattern’s source code but again this has it’s own disadvantages.
