New and baffled
I’m sure most of you will find my queries sophomoric at best; and for that, I appologize in advance.
I have never blogged or used php. My html sites have all been generated in Dreamweaver so even html knowledge is quite rudimentary.
I have published one page of content, changed font size and background color, and added a few links. Other than that, I don’t know where to start.
I’ve been scouring the internet for two days, and the articles and tutorials I’ve found assume prior knowledge and experience that I just don’t have. Is there a simple step-by-step tutorial available that is geared toward the total novice?
Thanks for your help.

Re: New and baffled
maestrodks,
Welcome to Textpattern.
Nope. Sorry, no simple tutorial. However. There is, the “TextBook“http://textpattern.net/, and textpattern.org to get you started in thinking.
Here is my advice.
Search the forums like crazy. You will find that folks are happy to answer your questions, but they will be REALLY happy if you show that you have done your research. TXP is not for beginners. It would be wise for you to do some research on CSS and XHTML before you go too nuts. Unless you just want to make those very minor changes to TXP default settings the way you have made those minor changes before.
To really find out what TXP is made of you need time and diligence. If you give it that, you’ll find its incredible. You will also find this forum to be amazing.
Lastly, check this site out. I found Dan’s page templates to be really helpful in understanding how pages, forms, and sections work in TXP. danboe.net (see archives, June 4th-6th), if you have questions, think them out carefully and then ask Dan, he’s a nice dude.
Hope that helps man.
Blessings,
Matthew

You could also download one of the themes from TextGarden and see how the page templates, form templates and CSS work together to produce the style. I would suggest one of mine as the instructions are brilliant. Yes I’m being modest again.

Re: New and baffled
The FAQ is linked from the download page, and from the post at the top of this forum. In particular, see I’ve installed Textpattern. Now what?.

Re: New and baffled
Stuart,
I recommended your templates ahead of you, as some that would help M. get what they need.
No need for modesty brotha, you’re templates are clean and sweet.
