Does Textpattern automatically make backups?

Is there a back up copy stored somewhere by chance? Not two days after I finally got my site up and working with TXP someone hacked my server or site, don’t know yet because my host has not got back with me, but I know one thing it doesn’t work…but it would be AWESOME if I could get backup copy or something?

(Edit: changed the thread title to reflect the topic of the thread. Was: “when you integrate TXP with your site…”. :) -Mary)

Re: Does Textpattern automatically make backups?

“Is there…”

No.

In order for Textpattern, or any software, to do that, you’d have to tell it to do that. It can’t read minds or predict the future. Even if it did, where would it store the backup: in the same place that’s already compromised, your database/files. Keeping backups is what you’re supposed to do yourself, like through a plugin or addon, or completely external program such as phpMyAdmin. Which, you haven’t. Maybe if you’re lucky your host makes backups, but you’d be told that if they did.

Sorry. I hope everything isn’t completely lost. :(

Preventing this in the future: you didn’t happen to have a really easy-to-guess/crack password, did you? There is a Textpattern plugin that helps you easily backup, and if need be, restore all your Txp content (with exception of the physical files).

If you want to do this automatically, any decent host can provide you with cron jobs to archive files et databases, and store it away of your web directories or on another server.

Re: Does Textpattern automatically make backups?

If you use cPanel, there is an script to do set automatic backups and get them send to an e-mail address.

Auto Database Backup for cPanel

It seems that the download link is broken, so if somebody need it, please, request it to me.

The script works very well for me, I have 3 databases backuped and send to my e-mail each morning.

Re: Does Textpattern automatically make backups?

Hey thanks for the replies. For my small little site it’s really not that huge of a deal. I’ve still got all of the static files on my PC so all I really need to do is upload them again. I am more upset about the fact that I’ve done nothing but try to learn textpattern for the last couple weeks and I finally get a grasp on some concepts, get my site up and well now its gone! :) But its not a big deal…I just thought I’d ask so I didn’t have set the whole site up again from scratch…but live and learn I guess.

I still cannot get over why someone would want to hack my little 10 page portfolio site. Maybe the name “deronsizemore” is worth millions and they want it and they’ve resorted to scare tactics.! lol.
