Throw me to the dogs : artiswork.org needs your critique.
Man I don’t even want to do this. I really want to wait until every last piece of functionality and design is cleaned up sweet and tidy, but hey, its just not gonna happen. I want you all to have first dibs.
A DISCLAIMER I respectfully ask that you don’t announce artiswork.org to the wide world yet, as there is some functionality I want to work through before I launch. In addition, you will note that the front-page is disabled still so that passers-by will not go willy-nilly inside the site until I close a few holes. :)
So really, I’m hoping you all can say something like:
“dude, your font color stinks, try this one …”
or
“I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but you should try basketweaving as a career unless you get that alignment right in IE 6”
So, with my stomach in knots:
Here’s artiswork.org (again, please forgive the sparse intro page: see “disclaimer” above for details.)
Credit:
A ton of folks have really made this what it is.
Mostly Mary, but also stuart aka:thebombsite and doggiez and hicks
The background functionality is where the fun really starts, so feel free to sign up for a trial run and let me know if things make sense.
Now, I’m going to go hide somewhere while I wait for the “pong” of new mail.
Cheers yall,
Matthew

Hi Matthew. I’ve always liked the layout so I have no criticism on that score. There are still display problems with IE for those hovers though. On the “artists” page they are too far to the right and on the “about” page they are too far left, in fact they cover the menu which is a bit of a pain. I notice in the source code that you have an IE style sheet and there appears to be a rogue “br” in there:-
<code><link rel=“stylesheet” href=”/css/ie6.css” type=“text/css” /><br></code>
<br />
I’m not saying that’s the cause but it shouldn’t be there. You don’t have any comments above your DTD in the page template do you?

Nardo and Stuart,
Thanks.
Good stuff. I got the IE 6 stuff worked out.
I haven’t been able to view it in IE 5. Any layout issues there?
Nardo, thanks on the congrats. He is the life work for sure.

IE5? What’s that then? You know, I still get the odd, very odd, visitor with IE4. It sort of makes you wonder if they should be allowed to access a computer. :)
And whilst we are talking about bundles of joy, what happened to that photo of the two of you? Great picture that was.

Stuart,
Yeah IE 5? and 5.5! :) I haven’t touched a pc with anything but the latest xp in a couple o years, and I only touch a pc if I have to :)
But also, thanks for saying about the pic. He’s the good lookin one, gets it from his mammy.
He’s a real nut. His name is Brighton. Not after the city, it means “one who is loved”, but I like Brighton the city too.
I lived over in Portsmouth for a couple of years at artschool.
The pic is here
Cheers then,
Matthew

Ha ha. There he is. I must have been concentrating too much on the IE problems and missed it. Don’t EVER remove it, even when he’s 18 and moans about it. ;)

Stuart,
I was messing around with a few things today in the css and now my rollovers won’t show up at all in IE 6, they are < span> tags within anchor tags? Works fine in FF and safari? The absolute positioning is not so drastic that it would be bumping it from sight and the z-index is pretty high (100). I can’t figure out what I would have done?
Thanks,
Matthew

They are working OK for me Matthew. FF1.0.7 and IE6.

Hmm,
The rollover on the about page specifically? Still working?
I wonder if the browser needed to be reset? It was weird, I thought it was a dispaly:none gone awry!
:0)
Thanks Stuart,
Matthew
ps. see this post if you know anything about mysql and local host stuff? I need to reset my password or somethin else.

Oh sorry Matthew. You didn’t mention “about”. The “artist” page is working fine still but you are correct about the “about” page with IE. I still need to run through your CSS so do you want to send me an updated version and I can work through that instead. I may start asking you for images and templates as well. ;)
I’ve already done the other post.
