Unicode Textile examples
This thread is for posting short example snippets of Textile in languages other than English, particularly multibyte languages. The dev team will use the examples for testing, so you can help improve Textile’s language support by contributing here.
What we’d most like to see are short snippets of text with simple Textile markup (<notextile>bold, link, h1. heading</notextile>, etc) demonstrating tricky situations, such as:
- Multibyte unicode characters (Chinese, Japanese, etc)
- Punctuation, brackets and other word boundary characters that are specific to a particular language (e.g. a link or bold followed immediately by non-ASCII punctuation)
- Samples of right-to-left languages
- Tricks and workarounds that are necessary to make Textile work with a particular language
- Anything that doesn’t work as it should
Posting snippets directly on the forum probably won’t work well, so link to a text file if you can.
[nb, there have been some Textile i18n improvements since 4.0.2, so it’d be a good idea to upgrade first]
Here’s an example of the kind of thing we need (thanks phiw13). Include both the original Textile and HTML output if you can, since the results we see might not match yours. The shorter the better, since there’s less chance we’ll misinterpret or overlook something.
ISO-8859-1 languages are already pretty well covered, so we probably don’t need many examples unless there’s something particularly quirky or wrong.
