How do I change permissions using FTP?
“Directory is not writable
To use the file and image upload capabilities, these directories have to be writable by PHP. Usually this means you have change permissions to 777. This can be done with your FTP client or alternatively on the command line by issuing a: chmod 777 /path/to/dir”
Both my images directory and file upload path are not writeable, but I’m unclear how to go about changing the directories’ permissions.
This is my first attempt using any cms so this installation process has all been new to me.
I use Mac OS 10.3 and my FTP client is Panic’s Transmit.
I’ve uploaded static sites that I’ve hand-coded several times, but I’ve never had to work with permissions of any type so I’m in the dark here. Is there a link I can follow that describes how to change permissions to 777 using my FTP client?
Thank you.

If you connect to your site using your FTP client then “right-click” on the folder you want to change, you should get a little menu with “file attributes” on it. Click on that then enter “777” into the little text-box. At least that’s how mine works. :)

Re: How do I change permissions using FTP?
But I appreciate the answer all the same! :) I had never done this step before so spent a good deal of time trying to make it harder than necessary – til I read my FTP’s fine print. (I really have to stop doing this stuff late at night)
Thanks!
