anchor tags around an excerpt - invalid code - workaround?

this is what I’m trying to do on the home page:
<txp:permlink><txp:excerpt /></txp:permlink>

i.e. link the whole excerpt to the article… but it doesn’t play well with the formatting within the excerpt… as the validator says,
you have attempted to put a block-level element (such as "<p>" or "<table>") inside an inline element (such as "<a>", "<span>", or "<font>").

stripping html from the excerpt is not an option as I want to have paragraphs and some formatting within excerpts…

any ideas?

Nardo,

It is wrapped in < p > tags, so it won’t validate:
See my solution here

You could accomadate this to suit you with a little work.

Obviously you don’t need the rollover functions.
