On This Day

One of the few things I miss about my old Movable Type installation was a plug-in called On This Day. The plug-in polled the database and displayed a list of links to articles written on the same date 1-, 2-,… n-years ago. I thought it extremely cool to be able to see what I wrote n-years ago.

I would like this capability with TxP. Has anyone seen such a beast? I’ve been searching but haven’t turned up anything.

If no such beastie exists, would some code-happy freak friend be willing to write one? ;)

Thanks all…

Re: On This Day

Hi there…
This code-happy freak friend is actually working on a plugin to do exactly this. I know it’s been taking a hell of a lot longer than I wanted to, but since you’ve reminded me about it, I’ll try to get it done by the end of the weekend, and if not then, certainly by the end of next weekend. (turkey and coding, oh yes!).

Oh, and would you happen to have a link to that MT plugin? There are a few things that I’d like to see about it. Thanks.

Re: On This Day

I might have a copy of the plug-in in my archives. I’ll look and see. If not, I’ll track it down today and email you the code or a link. How about that? ;)

I do appreciate this effort, by the way.

Re: On This Day

I’ve put the plug-in file on my dropzone for you to pick up. Once again, thanks for helping out an old MT user.

Has there been any progress on this work?

Re: On This Day

Sorry all that this has taken so long – I’ve had much to deal with at school and what not.

In any event, I have a version that should work, but it’s not quite what I want out of this plugin, but, for the time being, it can work. If you do find any bugs, please let me know. You can download it here

Read the plugin docs for info on how to use it. And as a fyi, this is probably going to change a lot before I’m satisfied with it.

Re: On This Day

Thanks, ako, for working on this. I appreciate it more than I can say. I get something from reading what was happening in my life year, two, three, … (induct) ago.

I do understand the end-of-semester situation, clearly. I’m on the other side of the desk and while my students are now just wondering what the outcome will be, I’ve got a stack of reports waiting for me to wade through them.

I downloaded code, plugged it in, and responded with some thoughts via email. I spent some time in a PHP reference book last night and hacked a part of what I want from a plug-in from your framework.

My goal is much simpler than the task you’ve undertaken. As I develop my thoughts, I’d be pleased to share what I learn with you. Maybe there will be something in them you can use.

In any event, thanks again.
