[wiki] [Attention] What to Post in this Forum!

First, this is not a forum for posting how do I…? questions or to seek troubleshooting help. This forum is intended for discussion and pre-development of Textpattern documentation only. All other gab will be moved accordingly (but don’t make us do it).

Second, although a lot of what you will likely see here will deal with TextBook, this forum is not restricted to just TextBook topics. This forum should be used for discussing doc resources wherever they may be, including the Textpattern Resources Site, the FAQs, whatever. (Leads: if you have a need for a sticky topic relevant to your resource, then post it and let an admin/moderator know it should be sticky. E.g., TextBook stickies begin with [TxB].)

Beyond that there’s not much to say except to give you some ideas of what we’re after here.

Ideas for Using the Forum Specific to TextBook Discussion

  1. Make a request for some documentation you think is badly needed in TextBook. This might be easier if you think about particular problems you have but cannot find answers for. (A great example is maniqui’s post here.) The most popular requests will be targeted for content to be drafted.
  2. Start a topic that addresses a particular undocumented process, but for which there are bits and pieces of useful information (nuggets) scattered around the forum. Seed the topic by linking to as many of the nuggets as you know about (link directly to the relevant reply in the threads). The idea is that everyone helps bring these pieces together in one place, thereby achieving two wonderful things:
    • We’ll be making it easier to find the nuggets and follow links to them (huge in itself).
    • We’ll be making it easier for TextBook authors to write concise articles on the issue by being able to pull from the concentrated threads here. (Two groups of people working together; it’s a beautiful thing.)
  3. Offer constructive suggestions about how to shape documentation planning, whether it’s what kind of documentation is needed, how it’s created, where it is housed, how it is displayed/presented, and so forth. The sky’s the limit. In all cases, please try and keep discussion associated to existing threads on the topic, if one exists. (If a topic exists and is closed, make a case for opening it back up — a good case.)
  4. Propose how existing documentation could be improved or rewritten to be more beneficial and palatable. Pick a documentation page in the wiki, start a new topic here, and break down what you think the problem is.

What else can be said? The implication here, if it’s not already obvious, is you don’t have to have a wiki account, or work in the wiki, to help with the TextBook effort. If you prefer the forum, great; there’s things you can do here to make things better there in the wiki (and thereby you’re contributing to the wiki effort).

Re: [wiki] [Attention] What to Post in this Forum!

For my last trick with moderator power, I’ll unstick this thread, which has since become rather silly with the renaming of this forum so long ago. The new powers to be can recycle as seen fit.
