Re: TXP in a subdirectory ... am I silly?
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I’ve now re-installed the whole thing in the root of a subdomain and all is well.
It might simply have been to late last night and perhaps I did something silly without noticing it.

Oh! Oh! Oh! I knew it.
I just found out what the problem was: I had deleted the archive page template and the article section was set to use it! Would you believe it.
I found out because I did it again but this time the connection between cause and effect was closer so that I realised.
