Directory protected with external .htacess gets 404 for TXP 4.0.2
I have a site where the statistics page (awstats) is reached by going to www.mysite.com/stats/
The /stats/ directory uses a .htaccess file for a simple password protection.
I note that now that TXP (4.0.2) handles error documents, it immediately reports a 404 when attempting to view /stats/.
If I remove the password protection .htaccess, it works fine.
Any ideas as to how I might get around this?

htaccess is a law unto itself and what works for one doesn’t work for another, however, a little further down this forum is this thread which has some suggestions in it.

hi Vitruvius,
I reccomend you to read this links:
.htaccess and awstats
TXP works but other scripts dont work because TXP. mod_rewrite issue?
Stats page redirects to main
And if you find a solution… share it! ;)

Re: Directory protected with external .htacess gets 404 for TXP 4.0.2
I did find some of these posts myself – and I think in atleast one case the problem is identical. It is not really related to awstats, just that the /stats/ directory is password protected with another .htaccess file.
Unfortunately the solution offered in that post does not work on my host…
I need a mod_rewrite / htaccess guru.
