Roll-over on map areas: any idea?

I was wondering what would be the best way in order to implement an hover state on map areas. I tried a simply <code>area:hover {background:…}</code> and it doesn’t work. :)

Basically I want the area to change colour or background on hover state. Any idea?

This is the only way I know to do it without doing wierd image slices in fireworks and exporting an (ugh) imagemap.
