Now I’m really confused.
bg.gif should exist, because that’s the file name that I loaded into TxP. It’s as if TxP saved/renamed it as 17.gif, but I don’t know why.
(Based on the experience of only one prior TxP site, I uploaded named images, and was able to refer to their names, not their ID numbers: photosbykat.net/ )

About thumbnail creation, it now works for some of them. Creating thumbnails for other images throws errors. I’m going to re-load all the images now.

Update: I apologize about the image names — in the earlier site, I had uploaded the site-design images manually.
(which messes with the TxP portability principle, but makes for more semantic-looking source.)

Still not sure about why thumbnails are causing errors.

Yes! The site works.
Any ideas about why some thumbnails are wonky?
For example, when I try to create a thumbnail, these errors result:

Warning: imagecreatetruecolor(): Invalid image dimensions in /home/.andalusia/montgomerystudio/michaelmontgomery.net/textpattern/lib/class.thumb.php on line 211

Warning: imagecopyresampled(): supplied argument is not a valid Image resource in /home/.andalusia/montgomerystudio/michaelmontgomery.net/textpattern/lib/class.thumb.php on line 212
