Re: What is the point of "article" and "article_custom?"
Um, sure, but I doubt you will get the TXP developers to bite on that one. First of all there probably wouldn’t be much end-user benefit (it’s probably just as verbose). The second reason is that there is already a huge installation of users using article_custom. But I suppose they could slowly phase out article_custom and add the article_custom functionality to the article tag — if they wanted to do that.
I think the real issue has been confusion about the article_custom tag and what it is for. Improved documentation should make it easier to comprehend.

Re: What is the point of "article" and "article_custom?"
I understand what the differences between article and article_custom are but what I don’t understand is why the need for 2 seperate tags. Wouldn’t it be simpler to combine the two tags into one and have another attribute like context=”1” to make it context-sensitive or not?
There’s this thing called backwards compatibility, see.
Hey, that’s a great idea. We could generalize the principle, and then we’d only have to document one tag!
<txp:tag do="article" />
<txp:tag do="article_custom" />
<txp:tag do="category" />
<txp:tag do="page_title" />
..etc.

LOL. I can’t wait to see what the conditional tags would look like, Alex. ;)
