home page not displaying... (very strange problem)

I’m having a strange problem with an installation. If I connect to my site front end (mysite.com), I get a blank page with this message:

config.php is not ok or not found. If you would like to install, go to /[/subdir/]/textpattern/setup/

I tried reinstalling, but nothing.

If I digit url with mysite.com/index.php, then I get the home page!

The admin area isn’t affected. It’s very strange. Any hints?
This has occured suddenly, without a reason. Can be something wrong on server settings?

As the message says, there’s something wrong with your config.php file. Perhaps it’s been deleted or moved.

No: the file is there.

In fact, if I digit mysite.com/index.php, everything works!!

Only if I omit index.php (and if I use the nice urls of txp) the system can’t work. There isn’t any config problem: if it were, nothing would work, I think.
Also the back-end part (that use .php urls…) works.

The server admin said that they’re doing some security update, and to reinstall the program. I did. Nothing changed.

….

Re: home page not displaying... (very strange problem)

I am suffering the same problem. It was working fine this morning, went to lunch, and now I receive:

“config.php is not ok or not found. If you would like to install, go to [/subdir]/textpattern/setup/”

I’ve just reinstalled textpattern twice by deleting and reuploading, including creating a brand-new config.php, but it hasn’t helped.

When I go straight to my index.php, I get the following notices and warnings:

Notice: Constant txpinterface already defined in /usr/domain/improvasylum.com/web/htdocs/index.php on line 14

Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by (output started at /usr/domain/improvasylum.com/web/htdocs/index.php:14) in /usr/domain/improvasylum.com/web/htdocs/textpattern/lib/txplib_misc.php on line 1228

Re: home page not displaying... (very strange problem)

I talked to server admin, and they told me that they had just upraded to PHP 4.4.2 dev. This version has a bug with mod_rewrite, that doesn’t work appropriately. They turn mod_rewrite off, and the site was running fine, but only with messy url. That broke all my internal link (some of them by plugin that worked fine only in nice-url mode) and permalink.

So I asked server admin to switch back to older version of php. They did and now everything is fine. They say that they’re waiting for a new patched version of php from the php community before redoing the switch to newer version.

Hope this can help also mcgee359.

Not fine if you’re running a client site… :-(

Bye!

Re: home page not displaying... (very strange problem)

Thanks Zanza — I’m calling our server admin right now to see if they’ve been screwing around with PHP upgrades.

According to the textpattern diagnostics, it looks like we’re running 4.4.1; we’ll see what they say in the background.

And you’re absolutely right — my client is not particularly thrilled right now. No fault of Textpattern’s, though!

(Update: That was it — we reverted back to PHP 4.3.8 and the problem with mod_rewrite was solved. Beware unstable branches!)

Cheers!
