Thank you guys for your answers anyway. Looks like there is nothing I can do about it. Maybe I’ll try to ask a university IT administrator if there is a possibility to install MySQL on their servers.

I dunno if its the 4.0.2 update, but a page I am working on, which has been pretty darn sluggish in development, has got much faster. Dunno what else the cause might be for the speed up…
