Wow...I'm really lost here.

Well I’d heard all about textpattern and how easy it was to install and use as a CMS…so since I’m looking for an easy CMS I thought I’d try it. The installation when smooth but after that I honestly felt like I could talk to a wall and get more accomplished then try to make textpatter work with a site I’ve already got designed.

I’ve read a lot of the FAQ topics and I just can’t seem to get it. All that I am trying to do is intigrate textpattern with my already designed site: http://www.deronsizemore.com. I deleted all the files from my root folder on my webserver and installed textpattern. I logged on to textpattern and uploaded my stylesheet for the site and uploaded my html (without the content).

And after that I have no idea how to insert conent into my page. I get the blank template up and going without content, but then I don’t know how to make additional pages. Like currently I’ve got “HOME”, “ABOUT”, “PORTFOLIO”, “SERVICES”, “CONTACT”.

Maybe I’m just missing a big chunk of info here, but example being when I played around with Content Management System Made Simple, it was very straight forward. I made my template. In the areas where I wanted content I would use something like:

[div]
{content}
[/div]

Go into my editor and add text and it then is published to the “{content}” section.

Honestly all I am looking to do here is duplicate the exact site I currently have at www.deronsizemore.com, only have the backend powered by textpattern for dare I say…easy updating.

Any kind of tips or pointers to maybe get my brain thinking right here would be awesome. I’ve just been sitting here scratching my head for the last hour and I’ve not worn a bald spot, so I give up for today. :)

Thanks,
Deron

Re: Wow...I'm really lost here.

Textpattern is dynamic, and all the content is stored in the database, rather than in static files. It won’t hurt them either, so you can certainly leave them uploaded until you convert their format.

You want to read these:

Thanks Mary. I’ll read them and hopefully have a better understanding of what is going on.
