"Facetiously Me" redesigns

The girl turns 21, so Facetiously Me gets a fresh style.

It’s not the first time she’s been thankful for Textpattern!

I like the way you weave in quotes and links – how are you doing that?

Re: "Facetiously Me" redesigns

The quotes and links are posted as articles just like the regular posts, but into their own category, i.e. “Footnotes”. From there I put them into a second category, like “quotes” or “link”, etc., which are all parented under “Footnotes” in the organization.

I then made a form for the footnotes that sets the type and colors differently. When I post the note, I go to the Advanced Options and choose to override the default form with the footnotes form, which is set to use the 2nd category title as the intro word/link, hence the “quote” or “link” that takes you to the page for that category.

Therefore all entries appear on the first page as articles, but are styled differently depending on their type/category.

I hope that was not too confusing.

Re: "Facetiously Me" redesigns

I’m still a novice to TextPattern but I was able to duplicate most of this! However, mine always wraps a [P] around [txp:body /] so mine always looks something like:

quote |

This is a quote

Instead of:

quote | This is a quote. (like on the Facetiously Me site)

This is a super basic question, but I can’t figure it out. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Shige

Re: "Facetiously Me" redesigns

It did the same to me, so the good fix seemed to be to wrap the paragraph tags around the body in the form, and then, when posting the article, choose to NOT use Textile under the Advanced Options for that post. Textile is what is giving you the auto P tags.

Good luck!

Re: "Facetiously Me" redesigns

Thank you and I don’t plan on duplicating the look and feel of your original design, I had been wanting to do something like that for a while and just didn’t know how to get started!

So when you have links in your footnotes, you have to code it using HTML by hand then, right?

Thanks again!

Re: "Facetiously Me" redesigns

Right. HTML it is, for those posts. Still, it was the easiest way around the problem that I could find.

Glad this was able to help! Post your site when it’s done, I’d like to see it…
