How many Mb of MySQL do you use?
I am looking around for some webhosting keeping in mind the need to use MySQL. WHat i have seen so far varies from 10Mb MySQL to 300 Mb MySQL. The problem is that, since i am new to txp i don’t have any idea how much space i will need. I know that it will depend <b>a lot</b> on the type of website that i build, but still i want to have some idea before buying anything.
So, how much space is everyone using?

The Bomb Site uses about 4MBs in the database and about 30MBs total though I do have about 600 images and around 140 download files which is probably a bit abnormal plus I have GuestBlock. It’s just what The Bomb Site does I’m afraid.

Re: How many Mb of MySQL do you use?
I site I administer has around 1809 articles which are on average relatively long (with quite a bit of html formatting), and it uses around 11,7 MB for the article-table in the db (the rest that textpattern saves in the db amounts to a few hundred kb). If you keep Textpatterns logs enabled and have a bit of traffic that can add another handful of MBs.
Personally, I wouldn’t choose my host based on a relatively trivial feature like this, since you can always upgrade to a larger package later. (The exception is of course, if your requirements for space are anything out of the ordinary, like hosting lots of multimedia content, but that doesn’t seem to be the case).

Re: How many Mb of MySQL do you use?
A quick glance at table sizes suggests, as a rule of thumb, that the size of the main textpattern table is usually about 2-3x the total size of the article bodies. i.e. 1Mb of article text will use something like 2.5Mb of space in the textpattern table, give or take. (That’s because the body text and body html are stored separately).
The log table can grow to a few megabytes or so if your site is popular. It purges old data though, so it won’t grow indefinitely.
The other tables together would typically add up to less than a megabyte, even with a few plugins installed.

34.9Mb total with 17.9Mb log and 14.5Mb of articles (1158 records).
I’ve had this install up since February of this year. The site averages about 2500 uniques a day, 3500 views.
I previously had FrontPage set up on the site and according to my host, the bandwidth is about 75% less with Textpattern.

Another special case may happen if you write in certain asian languages. Since textpattern uses utf-8 and utf-8 needs more bytes for those character than would be needed in their legacy encodings, the size may grow another 50 percent. (for example utf-16/big-5/etc. use 2 bytes per chinese character, utf-8 uses 3 bytes per chinese character).
