Plugin request (prob v simple)

Request: I’d like to apply a zebra pattern to rei_recent_comments so that it is easy to distinguish them.

I have Johan Nilsson’s glx_recent_articles which does it great for recent articles. I’ve tried to combine the two but can’t get it to work. I have a poor understanding of PHP, old brain cells can’t seem to grasp it any more. I could probably figure it out in a month or two but perhaps someone could do it in a few minutes instead? I am sure you would all like alternating background shades for your recent comments, wouldn’t you!

Re: Plugin request (prob v simple)

Akokskis, no that’s not what I mean. I have that plugin for the main comments and it is great. But there is a substitute for
<txp:recent_comments />
called rei_recent_comments which allows part of the comment to be shown, not just the author and title. I want this to be extended a bit more so that alternating recent comments (usually shown in the sidebar, btw) can have different styles similar to the plugin by Johan Nilsson called glx_recent_articles which does article titles but not comments.

Re: Plugin request (prob v simple)

Perhaps the zem_nth plugin does the job?

Re: Plugin request (prob v simple)

No, I’ve tried that too and it seems designed for lists already there, not on txp generated lists. At least I couldn’t find a way to make it works for me.

How can you wrap zem_nth around txp:recent_comments / and get it to applyto the lines generated within the recent comment list?

Re: Plugin request (prob v simple)

Does rei_recent_comments use a form? I can’t remember.

Re: Plugin request (prob v simple)

I’m not quite sure what you mean, Stuart, but I’ve looked in the Edit part of the plugin page and there’s no sign of a form there. It uses maxwords=“10” but not form=“whatever”.

Re: Plugin request (prob v simple)

OK. It’s been a while since I used it and I couldn’t remember. Something that used forms would be ideal here methinks.

Did you want to show full comments or limit their length?

Re: Plugin request (prob v simple)

I want to limit their lenght. The maxwords=“a number” is nice.

Re: Plugin request (prob v simple)

You just like limiting my options don’t you. Go on admit it. :) I think the word hack comes to mind here. Take rei_recent_comments and integrate the “zebra” feature from glx_recent_articles. Should be immense fun. I’m not the man for this but let me look at it for a while.

Re: Plugin request (prob v simple)

It will be a great chance to expand your horizons, Stuart :) For a man of your talents, it’s just a bit of copying and pasting isn’t it?!

Many thanks in advance if you can figure it out without diverting too much energy away from your priorities.

Copy/pasting??? I should be so lucky. I have to say nothing is working yet. :(
