Browsing by category and articles using override forms

Sorry but I’ve spent the last several hours trying to find the answer to this and I know it must be simple.

How do I get my articles which use an override form to appear when I’m browsing by category? I’m stumped (seems to happen regularly these days).

I’m not sure if I understand you correctly, but both the article and the article_custom tag have an attribute called allowoverride that can be used in lists of articles.

Perfect thanks Andreas. Not sure how I missed that, probably looking in totally the wrong places as I’m a complete newbie to Textpattern and CSS.

Cheers

Re: Browsing by category and articles using override forms

Okay, tried that and it didn’t make any difference. I’ve just been doing some more testing and now I don’t think it is to do with the override form, categories just aren’t working how I expect.

I have 3 categories – ‘General’, ‘Places to see’ and ‘Bars and Restaurants’.

If I look at 2 of the articles – ‘New golf courses’ is in the ‘News’ section and is under categories ‘General’ and ‘Places to see’. Article ‘Reviews’ is in the ‘Reviews’ section and is under categories ‘Bars and Restaurants’ and ‘Places to see’.

When I browse by category ‘Places to see’ I would expect to see both these articles, whereas only the ‘New Golf Course’ article appears. Both articles are live and use the standard form.

I also have a section called ‘Gallery’ which is used for photos. It is the articles in here which use the override form. When I browse by section everything appears as expected but if I browse by category, regardless of the category chosen, none of the related gallery articles appear. Again, they are all live.

The ‘browse by category’ behaviour appears consistent, I just can’t work out what it is doing, it certainly isn’t doing what I want.

Re: Browsing by category and articles using override forms

Okay, I’ve just sussed it. In order for an article to be available in the browse by category it has to be in a section which is set to appear on the front page.

That’s a bit of a blow as I don’t want all the articles to be on the front page but I do want them to be available in the categories. Any idea how I can do this?

Re: Browsing by category and articles using override forms

To display articles in sections that are not set to show on the front page, you can use <txp:article_custom section="..." /> instead of <txp:article />. I don’t think the attribute allows for multiple sections, but you might be able to solve that by using multiple tags.
Also the glx_if plugin might be useful for you.
