A revelation

I have just come back from the pub so the following post may be a little rambling and sentimental, but I will try to refrain from singing…

I just wanted to share a moment with you. I tried using txp a few months ago, and got a bit confused, installed a hundred and one plugins, set up ninety-five sections and had a thouroughly baffling time.

I read Mr Oxton’s account of setting up his site with txp, and I knew I was missing something, I just couldn’t see where I was going wrong.

Well, I picked up 4.01 the other day and had another go. And it clicked. It was…. well, I felt like I suddenly knew what you’d all been saying all along. Textpattern is the dogs. (And that is a good thing.) I haven’t designed my site, but I think, I really think, I get it. And please don’t tell me otherwise or you’ll spoil it.

So why this post? Well, I’ve had one hell of a day, and I just stopped by here and there are more new posts, as there always are, every day, and just thought I would say that I think think this whole community thing is great. really great. Amazing even. And I just wanted to share the love :)

Re: A revelation

Good for you marvincooper. When I first ‘got it’ I thought it was The dog’s bollocks too (marvin’s ‘dogs’ in full form!). CSS was much the same for me. I read all about it and fooled with it but one day, for no apparent reason, it just clicked into place. The best things are always worth that extra bit of effort.

This thread makes me want to eat chocolate for some strange reason! Gonna go have a beer and straighten myself out!

Oh the memories. I have a tear in the corner of my eye now. You guys and gals just crack me up at times. And are you suggesting that the rest of the world don’t know what the dog’s bollocks means Boogenstein?

Re: A revelation

When I first met my Wisconsin born Wife, I told her that she was ‘The dog’s bollocks’. Once I calmed her down and saved the relationship, she thought it was funny and sweet. When we got hitched I had the goldsmith engrave that very phrase on the inside of her wedding ring as a surprise for her! I obviously picked her well because she was, and still is, thrilled!

Do they know what it means? Very rarely, so it is up to us Brit’s, expat or at home, to educate. Thanks to Austin Powers, they all seem to know w—ker these days. It was much more fun before!

Re: A revelation

Ha ha. Nice one! Mr. Powers might possibly have taught them a new meaning for shag too.
