Where's my site gone? Index.php vanished

Hi – I hope someone on the forum can help me with this.
I’ve just installed txp 4 and when I go to my site – it won’t load-up! Index.php doesn’t automatically appear…and if I type it in…(root)/index.php…it will come up – but when I click on ‘comments’ – that’s not going anywhere either!!

What happened?
Is this because of the .htaccess file?

Likely.

  1. Add to the top of the .htaccess file: DirectoryIndex index.html index.php
  2. Go to your admin prefs and turn off clean urls.

Any difference?

(Edit: Oh and I deleted your posts for you. :))

admin > preferences > Permanent link mode

Change it to: ?=messy

Thanks – I’ve tried that now. Unfortunately the problem remains…how come my site and index.php have vanished?

I can’t see what you’re seeing. What do you mean by “vanished” or “doesn’t appear”?

Re: Where's my site gone? Index.php vanished

well…try this – go to my site: www.mattrobin.com – and it just hangs…nothing happens. Also…go to www.mattrobin.com/index.php….the page appears, select ‘comments’ and the same thing happens…nothing happens.

Adds: My site vanishing has only happened since I installed Textpattern…..so there’s a connection.

Re: Where's my site gone? Index.php vanished

I’m seeing the comments page which is a URL that contains /index.php so I’m wondering if you can only use “messy” URLs and need to remove the .htaccess file?

Hi Stuart,

What – remove the .htaccess file altogether then? My web host will have to that for me…as the .htaccess file is invisible to me on ftp.

Doesn’t TXP need the .htaccess file though…for…err, stuff?!!

In your ftp software, in options, you should have an option to show hidden files. What are you using?

Only for “clean” URLs.

Using FTP Explorer (A good, very easy to use FTP software I’d happily recommend to any man or beast)…

There’s nothing about hidden files.

I don’t know that one but you could try FileZilla. It’s free and does it all.
