i need mysql?

I take it that to use this i will need mysql?

its not very clear how to actually use this

yes, you need to have a My SQL database in the server and a user with the necessary privileges. Where are you hosted? In many shared servers you’ll find the possibility to create and manage your own databases, it’s not difficult (and I’m no expert!).
