Custom URL is not saved when saving as "draft"

When you save an article as “draft” the custom URL is not being saved along with the rest.

I suppose this is not a feature since I find it counter-intuitive.

Comments?

Are you sure of that?. What version of Textpattern?. Anybody can reproduce that?

I’ve just saved a couple of them and seems that the url_title is being saved as expected.

I’m sure. TXP 4.0.1 — I’ve just saved an article as draft, then edited the custom URL, saved again and then there was the auto-generated URL back in place.

It will keep auto-generating till the post goes public. Then the URL title field won’t change till you explicitly change it yourself. I think this behavior is good.

Well, for me it’s a bit unexpected: when I edit an article, determining its future URL is one part of the deal. I don’t want to wait with that until the final publishing moment.

Err, that’s a bug then. It was supposed to only change the url-title if
a) the title changed and
b) the post was previously unpiblished and
c) the old url-title matched the old normal title (meaning no manual intervention took place)

andreas, can you give a concrete title with which this is happening? Thanks.

Re: Custom URL is not saved when saving as "draft"

I just tried it with the following title:

“Dies ist ein langer Testtitel, der kürzer werden soll”

I manually entered “dies-ist-ein-testtitel” as the custom URL.

With every option except “live” and “sticky” the custom URL is ignored and the URL becomes

“dies-ist-ein-langer-testtitel-der-kuerzer-werden-soll”

Re: Custom URL is not saved when saving as "draft"

Ok, the way to reproduce this was to first save with a blank url-title (let it autogenerate), and then try to change it – it wouldn’t do it until it went public. But for articles where a custom title was entered right from the start, your manual changes were not overwritten.

Anyway, It’s fixed now (in svn, 1027).

Thanks sencer, I suppose I didn’t go about that systematically — or it was just my order of doing things that made me aware of the problem.
