Linking Authors

Hi,

I’d like to link authors to their respective website. Currently, I’m using <txp:author /> to display the author of each article. Is it possible to include a logic that links those author names to several websites? I.e. if it’s Author A, it goes to website A, if it’s Author B, it goes to website B etc? I haven’t found anything like “if_author” yet.

Any clues?

Thanks,
_TU

Re: Linking Authors

I don’t know if any or all of these would do the trick – rss_if_authorrss_author_emailrss_author_info.

Re: Linking Authors

rss_if_author would work but it’s broken in 4.0.1. Any idea how to fix it?

Re: Linking Authors

You could always use override forms. Having a specific form for each author and rapping the <code><txp:author /></code> tag in a link to their website.

Re: Linking Authors

nope, i don’t want to start with the override forms again. I used them for a long time without them being really necessary. I want the logic to be included in my default form where it belongs.

Also, no old articles would have this link then, because they aren’t published with those override forms.

It can’t be so hard to have something like if_author, can it? I mean, it’s pretty standard…

What about using some php magic?

Re: Linking Authors

I’d like to bump this and hoping towards making this a feature?

There is the rss_author_info plugin but all that is really needed is another field in the user record for website and to adjust the txp:author tag to offer another link type that would generate a link to the author’s website.

Feature ransom ;)

Re: Linking Authors

4.0.4 has an if_author tag.

Re: Linking Authors

Mary, the if_author tag would be cumbersome to maintain with many contributors.

Out of the box, Textpattern lacks a few fundamentals, archives, member pages, etc. Yes, there are plugins and how-tos, but moving forward, I hope that Textpattern makes it easier for the casual user to easily setup sites for their intended purpose.
