A Dull Thing, But Mine Own

Textpattern – a lovely thing. My implementation – simplistically tweaked.

Not dull at all, neither layout nor content. I like it. Makes me want to stay and read some more.

Re: A Dull Thing, But Mine Own

I think it looks really good. And I must add that this is one of the few sites that I actually dig the way “monospace” has been used. Considering the content and the limited use of the font it works really well.

Re: A Dull Thing, But Mine Own

This site is inviting for reading, and has a pleasing design. But no title?? Also, I would recommend a different hover effect for your article links rather than underlining, as the article titles already have lines underneath. A final nit-pick – I would align your photograph on the right side with the left side of the content area.

Re: A Dull Thing, But Mine Own

Very good point about the hover, flowmom – I am trying out some alternatives.

A title comes and goes – I’m not convinced it adds anything, which is either a radical notion, or dumb. It sort-of forces people to click on ‘About’, as well…

I like the idea of a butted-up photograph, but my memories of getting perfect alignments to work across browsers are not happy ones. I’ll fiddle with it, and see what I come up with.

Re: A Dull Thing, But Mine Own

Looks good. And the poems look good too. Nothign in the design to interfere with them. I like the simplicity. However – niggling little point this – I wonder if you could give equal size margins around the photograph as the top and bottom look a little cramped.

All the best,

Will

In Safari, I have the type enlarged 2 steps (my glasses were off). Your header titles get bumped in front of your content. You might think about putting your header in a container div? Someone else may have a better idea?

Re: A Dull Thing, But Mine Own

nagarjuna, I have done some shuffling of the photo – thanks for the suggestion.

ma_smith, oh, yes, so it does. Hm. I think I know what the problem is…

Re: A Dull Thing, But Mine Own

…OK, the top line of navigation links no longer jumps down over the content at increased text sizes – although, being a line of text, it still breaks into 2 lines (or, potentially more) if the user increases the text size. Is that appropriate ‘graceful degradation’?
