Am I missing something here?

I’m installing TextPattern for the first time. I’m trying to install a template. It’s instructions include the following:

In TXP go to “Admin/Plugins”. At the top of the page are 2 text boxes. Ignore the top one. Next to the second one is a “Browse” button. Click on it and find your way to wherever you have stored your TXP Manji files. Go into the plug-ins folder and select the first file. Now click on “Upload”. Once TXP has loaded the file you will see a screen with lots of code on it. That’s the plug-in code.

My Admin/Plugins page does not have two text boxes and does not have a Browse button:

Is that image correct, or is part of the page missing as suggested by the plugin instructions that I’m trying to follow?

I’ve installed TextPattern 4.0.1 and I’ve tried open the Admin/Plugins page using Safari v2.0.1 (412.5), Firefox 1.0.7, and MS Internet Explorer 5.2.3. (5815.1) all running on a Mac with OS X 10.4.2.

Re: Am I missing something here?

The two boxes were for an older version of Txp. For the current version, installing plugins is really easy (easier than before, IMO).

All you need to do is take the plugin (which is a lot of random characters (to get technical, it’s the plugin code, just base 64 encoded)), paste it into the box (labeled with “Install plugin”) and then click on the upload button. After clicking upload, you will be shown the php code of the plugin. Go to the bottom of the page, and click install. This will install the plugin, but to make it active you need to change it’s status in the plugins tab. On the row that is the plugin you just installed, under the “Active” column, click on “no”. This will change the status of the plugin to active (ie: it will be turned on).

Hope this helps…

And thanks for reminding me that I now need to update those instructions. Oh. it’s just never-ending isn’t it? :)

Thanks for the quick response! I was tempted last night to try exactly what you wrote but I was exhausted and didn’t trust myself in that condition.

Re: Am I missing something here?

A follow-up question for thebombsite. I got the plugins uploaded successfully and finished the rest of the install but my home page is not picking up the CSS code. I suspect that is caused by either the fact that my site is in a subdirectory (I think I did everything to adjust for that) or that DTD_head form has nothing in it (and that is because the “DTD_head template misc.txt” file had nothing in it). When I do a view source on my site home page I see that it starts with the </head> tag, so something is not quite right.

Any suggestions?

Re: Am I missing something here?

You have the dreaded blank DTD problem. If you could email me I’ll email it across to you.

I sent you an email using the email link under your name on your post. Not sure if that is delivered as an email or if you need to login to some private message area on this forum.
