My website is not found at google
My website (see topic) is online now for a week, and was always showing up at Google when it was under construction, but now it is online and it’s not :(. Google only points to this forum. I’ve set up a sitemap and I did announce my site to Google, but its still not showing up. Is there something to do about this?.
Regards,
Joey

I don’t know, I don’t see anything wrong with it. No related meta tags, and you have a blank robots.txt file. Maybe fill it with something like disallow the cgi-bin folder or some other crap. Try to re-submit the site to Google and maybe get listed on dmoz.

Re: My website is not found at google
Hmm an empty robots.txt is okay, isn’t it? I thought that a empty robots.txt just gives the bot acces to all pages.
By the way, what is dmoz?

Yes, AFAIK it’s fine, but you never know with robots, or at least that’s what I think. >_>;
Dmoz.org is the open directory project, you can pick a category and ask your site to be indexed. It’s a good way to get recognized by search engines. That or wait a few days more the bots to crawl your site. Are you seeing robots hits in your TXP logs? If so it may take a little time to get listed again.

Sometimes it takes longer than a week for Google to update its index. In my experience, generally it’s around a month before you can rely on something new showing up.

Re: My website is not found at google
I’ve heard quite a bit lately about the google “sandbox” effect, where when sites are launched or the content of sites suddenly changes drastically, you are put on a sort of entry probation (aka “the sandbox”), before you receive any kind of ranking, etc… It seems to be a fairly recent developement and different people have noted the effect lasting anywhere from 1-3 months. Do you show up in yahoo!?
After enduring years of Art School, mild mannered Owen Waring noticed some unusual changes… the constant bombardment of criticism, it seems, had altered his DNA. Half pixel pusher, half programmer, he had become…. THE BIZARTIST

Don’t expect to hear anything back from dmoz, trust me. Dmoz is dead.

It’s not dead! :P
I’ve got a couple of sites listed, recently, while other three have been completely ignored. Maybe it was ‘cause I picked the wrong category, who knows. I think it’s all up to the editor managing that particular category.

Re: My website is not found at google
I’ve been “in the queue” for over a year now for several sites. Additionally, they no longer have an submission status checks. There are widespread reports of bribes-for-listings and the real way to get included.
Open source directories are for the birds. I’ll rely on paid and organic.

Re: My website is not found at google
Sorry, I guess I really wasn’t being helpful at all. As to your problems with Google, there is lots of speculation surrounding the “Sandbox Effect” but it still remains a bit like the yeti. Everyone’s got their own theory.
Truth be told, there is little to be done unless in the rare case that you truly observe some sort of tangible penatly. Otherwise, you may just have to wait it out.
All sites are in a grey area when it comes to ranking in their first 6 months as an existing domain, unless they receive insane amounts of quality inbound links. This is why spammy domain “parkers” do just that, so that the domain doesn’t “look” new if anyone ever decides to develop on the domain because it’ll have been online for a long time. And many times an IP/DNS change can alert a search engine as to a new site’s presence. But once again, all still vague speculation.
I guess that doesn’t really help too much more, but I figured I’d give you a little more than just dmoz flames ;-)

I took me two months for Sidulus (my blog) to be indexed, while the “Coming Aoon” page for Lumilux was indexed within a week or two of creation.
