Re: upm_file_packets
excellent plugin! Thanks! Its already implemented on textgarden.org (which is still under construction) In action here: http://textgarden.org/category/blog
Any chance of a tag that can output articles based on download count? Something like the standard txp:article tag , just with an option to sort by number of downloads.
Its the last thing I need for Textgarden.org.

Yes, any chance ? ô_Ô (oh pleeeeeeease !)
It’s the only missing thing in plugin (I love it). I suppose it’s hard to do but that would be fantastic.

Re: upm_file_packets
Hm. It’d be tricky, since I wouldn’t want to interfere with the article tag in any other way. Still, I’ll see if I can do it.
The site is looking nice, Sivert.

Re: upm_file_packets
It could be a modification to the chh_article_custom plugin.

Thanks! :)

Re: upm_file_packets
Well, that plugin is an extended version of the older versions of several built-in tags. I’d like to avoid making copies of many tags unless they were really really really (really!) needed. ;)
Can you guys show me the pages and forms you are currently using to make your lists? It may make it a lot easier for me to determine if and how I can do this, so I can know what this would me used for most often. I can see why you’d want this, I’d just like to make the implementation a lot clearer in my mind.
If your forms/pages are really long (or you don’t want everyone see and/or copy your stuff), don’t paste them here. Email them to me (either right in the email or attached as a file or files). I’d really appreciate it.

Re: upm_file_packets
List forms? Sure. Excerpts following. Do you need all the code? Its just the standard stuff really.
Page code
<code><txp:if_article_list>
<txp:article form=“Layout_Preview” limit=“20” />
</txp:if_article_list></code>
Layout_Preview form
<code><txp:if_custom_field name=“Download file id”>
<txp:upm_article_file_list form=“Layout_Download” /><br/>
</txp:if_custom_field></code>
Layout_Download form
<code><txp:file_download_link>Download</txp:file_download_link> (<txp:file_download_downloads />)</code>

Re: upm_file_packets
Okay, I didn’t want to ‘copy’ the article tag, but it looks like I’d need to. I tried one other method I could think of, but it doesn’t really work well. I thought of another, but that won’t work either, since it would be more complicated than just making a version of the article tag.

Re: upm_file_packets
A copy of the article tag isn’t bad, it just needs frequent updates if you expect it to behave exactly like the original. Or so I imagine. Perhaps it isn’t that big of a deal… :)

Re: upm_file_packets
That would be it exactly. But that’s all right, it won’t be a humongous job.

Re: upm_file_packets
Hi mary and thanks for great plugin.
Did just what was on my files utility wish list. I am not sure should I post this on this post or on feature request but here it goes for nothing:
txp:files_description on pop-up menu. I am having something like 100 files and can´t really manage them well as they are badly named. Maybe this can be option under extension. Just my five cents.
Best regards, Topi

Re: upm_file_packets
Sure thing. I just recently added this kind of thing to the img_popper plugin, so this shouldn’t be a problem.

Re: upm_file_packets
feature request:
- sort order – I think at the moment it lists multiple files alphabetically? an option to sort according to the order specified in the custom field (33,37,31) would be great … or maybe I’m missing something
- on the files tab, how about a checkbox next to each file (default: ticked) that determines whether the file is publicly available? reason being: sometimes you want to keep notice of ‘historical’ files – and display them (with a txp-inserted class perhaps) maybe crossed out… I’m thinking for a mp3 blog where I’d like to remove files after a certain time but would like the relevant articles to show what files were provided… I think it would make sense for other applications too… (and if you want to delete the damn thing, just hit the ‘x’!)
No.2 may be out of plugin scope so will cross post on ‘feature request’ forum

Re: upm_file_packets
- The tag works identical to the built-in, so it sorts by filename alphabetically by default, and you can also order by download count (asc or desc) or “random”. I agree custom, sort order should be possible. So it shall be written, so it shall be done. ;)
- While it could be done with a plugin, it would mean either altering the textpattern table, or creating a new one. Neither of which I’d choose to do if I can avoid it. It’d be a lot cleaner – and make more sense – to have that kind of feature built-in to Textpattern.
