I switched to messy urls and renamed .htaccess. Now when I try to upload plugins, I get an internal server error. The rest of my site still works fine.

I was able to find a plugin that would install finally. It was etz_hilite. I still haven’t been able to install rss_suparchive, which is what I really need.

What exactly did you change from and to? That form’s action has always used index.php as the URL. There’s nothing bogus to fix.
